SIDING MAINTENANCE
Use product-specific care guidance and review the finish before treating your siding.

Start with the siding product and finish installed on your home. Keep the manufacturer’s care instructions and warranty documents with your project records. If you are unsure which product you have, ask before applying cleaning methods intended for another material.
James Hardie recommends a low-pressure hose and a soft nonmetal brush for routine cleaning. Follow the guidance for the specific finish and type of soiling. Avoid treating stronger pressure or harsher products as an automatic improvement; follow the manufacturer’s instructions.
While checking the exterior from a safe location, note visible changes in the finish, trim, or connections. Photos help you explain what you are seeing and when it appeared. Cleaning and repair are different tasks; a recurring issue should be reviewed rather than repeatedly covered or treated without understanding it.
A home may combine several materials and finishes. Use the instructions that apply to each one rather than one cleaning approach for siding, masonry, metal, and wood. Where work is difficult to reach, discuss a suitable professional approach instead of attempting roof or ladder access.
Save the product names, finish information, care instructions, and written warranty terms from your installation. These records make future maintenance and questions easier to address. If your concern is ongoing deterioration rather than routine cleaning, discuss the condition and replacement options before committing to another finish treatment.
